It seems like Alex Parrish’s tirade of misfortunes could be coming to an end soon, as the future of ABC’s hit drama-thriller ‘Quantico’ is getting wobblier by the day. While the show has still been running strong, pumping out new weekly episodes till its season 2 finale on April 17, no clear update exists on the fate of the show.
The showrunner, Joshua Safran, has already revealed the death of fan favorite character Leon Velez, played by Aaron Diaz, confirmed in season 2 episode ‘Mockingbird’, and Russel Tovey, playing Harry Doyle, has also announced his exit on the show. Chopra herself took to twitter a month ago to reveal that the show had finished filming for the season, leaving it ambiguous whether the show would continue on.
However, reports indicated that Chopra had signed on with ABC, leading to rumors swirling on about a season 3 in the works. This is all despite the drop in ratings for the show, which premiered at a high of 8 million viewers in 2015. However, season 2 opened to a more than fifty percent drop in audience, polling in about 3 million viewers and averaging in viewers in the 2 million range throughout its run.
Safran has, however, made it clear that ratings are not on his radar. Speaking to THR, he said “Regardless, the show will either come back or it won’t. I highly doubt we’re going to double in the ratings and I also highly doubt we’re going to lose half of our audience. I’m blissfully ignorant and just keeping my head down trying to make the show as strong as possible.” The producer also revealed that the season’s finale will offer closure, even if the show is cancelled, thus, confusing viewers even more about the future of the series, with even ABC keeping its lips sealed.
