FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017: USA beat Ghana 1-0 to go top of Group A – Ayo Akinola scored in the 75th minute to help USA get all three points from the game.
Substitute Ayo Akinola scored a late winner as USA defeated Ghana 1-0 to top of Group A at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017 on Monday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
There wasn’t much to separte the two sides in what was an intriguing contest.
The first half was evenly played, with USA edging the number of chances created before the break.
Blaine Ferri went closest to scoring for the Americans, but both his free-kick effort and a dangerous-looking strike from the edge of the Ghana box missed the target.
The second half saw a more determined Ghana come out and press the initiative, as they created a handful of quality chances just after the break through Sadiq Ibrahim and Emmanuel Toku.
Akinola slotted a neat finish past Ghana goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim in the 75th minute to propel the Stars and Stripes to the top of the group after two straight victories.
USA had defeated India 3-0 in their opening game of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2017.
