Namak Halaal​ is a comedy film, directed by Prakash Mehra. The film casts Amitabh Bachchan, Smita Patil, Parveen Babi, Shashi Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman in the lead roles. It was remade in Tamil as Velaikaran. Songs like, Pag Ghunghroo Baandh, Raat Baaqi Baat Baaqi and Aaj Rapat Jaayen To, had become very popular in the 80’s.

Aakrosh is directed by Govind Nihalani, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Amrish Puri and Om Puri. The film won several awards like Golden Peacock for Best Film, International Film Festival of India; National Award for Best Hindi Film.

Mirch Masala was directed by Ketan Mehta, which stars Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles. After giving a good performance in the movie, Forbes included Smita Patil’s performance into its list of ’25 greatest acting performance of Indian Cinema’. This was her last movie before her death.

Umbartha is a Marathi film, directed by Jabbar Patel. The film stars Smita Patil and Girish Karnad. Smita played the lead protagonist in the movie for which she had won Marathi Rajya Chitrapat Puraskar for best actress. It was one of her most notable roles.

Bhumika was directed by Shyam Benegal, which stars Smita Patil, Amol Palekar, Anant Nag, Naseeruddin Shah and Amrish Puri. It was based on the life of Marathi film actress ‘Hansa Wadkar’, for which she had won her first National Award for Best Actor.
