“If you change nothing, nothing will change.”
You must have heard Anupam Kher’s character saying this dialogue in ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’, an important film which spoke about open defecation and campaigned for Prime Minister Modi’s Swachch Bharat Campaign. This golden words has come up in a film once again, but this time in Rajkumar Rao’s new film ‘Newton’. And it makes sense as the film has an important story to tell through cinema.
Newton’s trailer is out which has Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. Interestingly, his character wasn’t named Newton but he changed it himself to be avoid being called Nutan Kumar. And true to the name, Newton once again challenges the existing beliefs and follows what he thinks is the right thing to do. The film is about a young man who is trying to conduct a free and fair election against all odds. This time in the deep jungle of India, fighting against the Maoists, he has taken up the challenge to make citizens make full use of their basic right to vote.
The scenes between actor Pankaj Tripathi and Rajkummar Rao speak about the reality of the situation, one who fights against the system while the other has surrendered and become a part of the system.Directed by Manish Mudra, Newton also boasts of an impressive supporting cast. Raghubir Yadav, Pankaj Misra and Anjali Patil are also part of the film. This Anand L Rai production depicts the sad reality of Indian democracy and how a common man fights against it.
