(fashion show) What better way to indulge in a summer of love than with a spring in your step? Tarun Tahiliani’s stellar new collection reveals clothes that transform into a breathtaking aria of fantasy and romance. Combining wispy delicacy with dramatic flair, the imaginatively avant-garde designer fashions a lovingly handcrafted collection.
Inspired by the nomadic beauty of the Kutch desert tribes, the collection is a bohemian rhapsody of sorts. ‘I have always been inspired by the way the people of this region wrap themselves in big blankets, and this collection is my take on that,’ says Tahiliani. The atelier played with a luminous choice of colours which include reimagined renditions of cobalt blue, ravishing red, marshmallow pink and sunny yellow. The palette gradually shifts to subtle pastels of white and ivory before exploding into a dramatic easel that celebrates the onset of spring. A clever mix of couture and craftsmanship is visible through the use of innovative fuss-free fabric with inventive embellishments, digital prints and sensual draping. ‘This season, we have conceptualised and developed the light-weight crinkle fabric, which falls like a dream and doesn’t crush. It is summer appropriate, vibrant and can be styled to be very dressy,’ says Tahiliani.
On DLF Emporio’s association with Tarun Tahiliani, Dinaz Madhukar, Senior Vice President, DLF Emporio says, “Tarun Tahiliani is an undisputed pioneer in India’s fashion industry and that makes him the perfect partner for DLF Emporio which holds the distinction of being India’s first and finest luxury destination. Tarun’s creative oeuvre truly exists in a class of its own and we are excited to continue our association for the 7th year in running.““Emporio is where we house our flagship store, now looking to expand into a larger footprint. It is the undoubted, luxury destination Mecca in India with an amazing mix of brands that define luxury worldwide”, says Tarun Tahiliani.
The ready-to-wear line is an extravagant visual tour-de-force. Here, goodness shimmers in the details as tromp l’oeil lures you into a secret lair. Traditional artistry weaves its magic spell over nuanced, contemporary silhouettes. Artfully divided into categories, it showcases the atelier’s unsurpassed mastery in different forms of workmanship. Take, for instance, the Ombre Crinkle range of draped kaftans, shirts, dresses and jackets in net and jersey. Or the Tonal Tangle collection, which is a kaleidoscope of geometric patterns on gilets, trousers, saris and kurtas made of georgettes, nets, jerseys and handloom. The A La Mode Sheesha collection is ornamented with brilliant mirror-work which shines through in gilets, Grecian dresses, kurtas with attached dupattas and concept saris in soft nets, georgettes, dupion and jersey.
The Graphic Noveau range, as its name suggests, is effortlessly cool with dramatic motifs embroidered on monochromatic toned tunics, capes, crop tops, layered skirts and all forms of dresses (maxi, short and wrapped) in chanderi, handloom and jacquard. The Bauhaus Collection, inspired by modernist design, comprises a vibrantly edgy range of structured shirts, kaftans, corsets and t-shirts in graphic shapes, geometric patterns and bold colours. The melange of floral and geometric prints in the Chintz Collection offers a breezy elegance to languid kaftans, kurtas and tunics.A whiff of old-world glam charms us in the Chikankari range of tunics, shirts and kalidars – some of which are sprinkled with crystals while the Shahjanabad series of gilets and dresses come with printed motifs of Mughal art. Old World. New Look.
The ready-to-wear collection has a ‘separates’ line known as TT DIY, which is perfectly suited for the modern Indian aesthete. Inspired by everyday life, it captures the mood of the moment by lending a sophisticated twist to a street-style sensibility. Think smart and sexy options that are as easy to wear as western clothing but with a strong Indian connect. ‘There are draped gilets, asymmetrical tunics, dolman dresses, kalidar kurtas that can be worn as dresses, roomy palazzos, crop tops that can be worn as cholis, draped shorts, corset-belted skirts, lungi skirts, harem pants and our signature tailored dhoti pants. All of these can be easily – and stylishly – mixed and matched to create your own vision of chicness. Universal in appeal with a hefty dollop of Tahiliani’s inimitable trademark, the best part of the TT DIY range is its versatility and vibrancy.
Bridal and Occasion Wear
The collection also has its share of stellar styles for summer weddings and other occasions. Dreamy and decadent, the range comprises romantic lehengas, delicate saris, party-ready kurtas, cosy capelets and opulent jackets created in heritage fabrics such as bandhini, brocades, dupion and Banarasi silk. While crystals, pearl and mirror work detailing lend a luxurious feel to the pieces, the tone-on-tone sequin embroidery on stretched tulle sensually contours against the body like a second skin. The velvet applique, bold prints and exquisite French knot embroidery seem as if it may have been inspired from another era but looks totally on point now – A perfect embodiment of the brand’s philosophy of India Modern. All that we were and more……
The understated menswear range is meant for the sartorial gent and expresses Tahiliani’s trademark luxury-laced intent. Exuding a minimalist sobriety, the collection includes lust-worthy layered kurtas, light-weight achkans and pre-draped dhotis. This collection, at its heart, celebrates the need of the hour: comfortable, diaphanous clothes that scream summer kind of wonderful. What perfect way to delight our senses under the sun-kissed haze of spring?
